Swipe a Card

Learn how to process face-to-face payments using a card reader.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview

If you regularly meet with clients face-to-face, using the Swipe a Card feature within Enter Payments is the best way to increase both speed and accuracy.

By swiping a card, you eliminate the risk of manual data entry errors. Furthermore, because the system automatically captures most of the card details, the process is significantly faster than keying in information by hand.

NOTE: This option requires an encrypted card reader that plugs into your computer's USB port.

How to Process a Swiped Payment

  1. Navigate to Enter Payments in the left navigation bar.

  2. Select the Swipe a Card tab (the default view is usually manual entry).

  3. Fill in the transaction details.

    • Note: You will notice that Amount is the only required field.

    • Once you swipe, the magnetic strip will automatically populate the card number, expiration date, and required cardholder account information.

  4. Email Receipt (Optional): Enter an email address to send an automated receipt. You can enter multiple addresses by separating them with a comma.

    • If you prefer a physical copy: You can skip the email and choose to print a receipt on standard 8.5 x 11 paper after the transaction is approved.

  5. Click the Swipe button at the bottom of the page and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.
