What is Recaptcha?

Learn how reCAPTCHA protects your payment forms from automated fraud.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Overview

reCAPTCHA is an optional security widget you can enable at the bottom of your client-facing online payment forms in ClientPay.

How it looks for your clients

When enabled, your client must click the checkbox next to "I'm not a robot" before the Process Payment button becomes active.

While some versions of this technology require users to identify distorted letters or select specific objects in a series of photos, our version is designed to be tough on bots but simple and user-friendly for your clients.

How does it work?

The technology relies on advanced risk analysis techniques to tell humans and bots apart:

  • Human Perception: It uses challenges that are easy for humans to solve but nearly impossible for automated software.

  • Behavioral Patterns: It tracks how a human moves a mouse toward a checkbox, which is significantly different from how a script or "bot" selects an item.

  • Security Algorithms: By using pattern movements and user engagement, reCAPTCHA prevents automated software from taking over your payment pages.

Key Benefits

  • Prevents Fraud: Stops malicious software from attempting automated transactions.

  • User-Friendly: Simple one-click validation for most legitimate users.

  • Enhanced Protection: Adds an extra layer of security to your firm’s payment portal.

Troubleshooting reCAPTCHA

If the "I'm not a robot" widget isn't loading or functioning correctly, try these quick fixes:

  • Check Browser Settings: Ensure pop-ups are enabled. If they are blocked, the reCAPTCHA window cannot appear.

  • Update Your Browser: Use the latest version of your browser. Chrome is highly recommended for the best stability, while Internet Explorer may cause persistent issues.

  • Verify Connection: A slow internet connection can prevent the verification images from loading fully.

  • Clear Cache & Cookies: If the widget feels "stuck," clearing your browser’s cache and cookies can often reset the session.

  • Google Sign-In: If using Chrome, being signed into a Google Account can help the system verify you are a human more quickly.

  • Avoid Repetitive Attempts: Frequently refreshing or using the same payment page in a short window may trigger extra security layers, making the challenges more difficult.
